Eligibility |
Membership in the YOBC is
open to young musicians in elementary grades through
high school. There are presently 175 students
participating in one or more of our five ensembles.
Pennsylvania residency is not a requirement. |
|
Requirements |
Members must participate
in their school instrumental music programs, if
available, and take private music lessons. Please
see our
Handbook for details. |
|
Tuition |
The annual membership fee
is $210. Scholarships for membership and private
music lessons are available and awarded on the basis of
need. |
|
Parent
Participation |
Without parent
participation our organization would not be able to
exist. Therefore we require that a parent volunteer form
be filled out and returned with the tuition fee before a
child will be accepted into YOBC. We expect a commitment
of approximately 5 hours a year. |
|
Attendance
Policy |
Regular attendance is of
the utmost importance for fostering the kind of
atmosphere needed to develop a musical ensemble. Please
do not consider registering your child if you know his
or her participation in other activities will come in serious conflict with our
rehearsal schedule. For details on our attendance policy
please see our
Handbook. |
|
Auditions |
All
members must audition prior to placement. Entry is based
solely on proficiency, not age.
Move-up auditions are scheduled at the recommendation of
the director of a member's present ensemble.
|
|
Rehearsals |
All
ensembles rehearse weekly on Sunday afternoons during
the months of Sept - November and January - April at the
Bucks
County Community College, Newtown Campus. For
details as to exact times please contact our Business
Manager, Lynn Fergusson,
manager@yobc.org. |
|
Programs |
Each
ensemble performs in the annual fall concert in November
and spring concert in April. Other performance
opportunities include field trips, extra concerts either
with the entire ensemble or a chamber group, and our
international tours which take place every two years
(see the links under "On the Road" on the navigation bar
to the left). There are also plans to offer theory
classes, master classes, and projects with professional
orchestras in Bucks County and the surrounding area.
