YOBC's Concerto Soloist Competition

Eligibility: The soloist competition is open to all current YOBC sophomores and juniors in Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds, in good standing, who will be continuing with YOBC for the 2016-17 season. Applicants for the competition may audition on strings, wind, brass, or percussion instruments including piano and harp.
Awards: Winners will receive a cash award and will have the opportunity to perform with the Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds at either the 2016 Fall Concert or the 2015 Spring Concert. The music director and judges will determine the winner(s) and performance date(s).
Requirements: Candidates must prepare one movement, two contrasting movements, or an entire concerto scored for performance with concert band, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, or string orchestra and suitable for performance by either the YOBC Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds. The length of the selection must be between 7 and 12 minutes including repeats. All music must be approved by Mr. Loughran.
Audition Date: Final auditions will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. In the event that there are more than 8 applicants for the competition, a preliminary semi-finalist round may be held on, Saturday, June 4, 2016. All applicants must be available for both rounds. Applicants will perform with an accompanist for the final round only. YOBC will provide an accompanist who will work with each candidate for up to 30 minutes prior to their final audition.
Procedure: Interested members should submit an online application with $35 non-refundable application fee by January 31, 2016. A copy of your selection with piano accompaniment must be submitted to Mr. Loughran no later than February 21, 2016. Please submit your music as soon as possible so the accompanist has time to prepare. You will receive an email confirming your audition time by March 22. In the event that a semi-finalist round is necessary, we will notify you of your audition time for the final round after the first round is concluded. We will attempt to honor requests for audition times which are indicated on your application. No changes will be made in the schedule after confirmations are emailed. Applicants not complying with the procedure or not meeting the deadlines may be disqualified.
