YOBC's Concerto Soloist Competition
Saturday, June 3, 2017
Eligibility: The soloist competition is open to all current YOBC sophomores and juniors in Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds, in good standing, who will be continuing with YOBC for the 2017-18 season. Applicants for the competition may audition on strings, wind, brass, or percussion instruments including piano and harp.
Awards: Winners will receive a cash award and will have the opportunity to perform with the Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds at either the 2017 Fall Concert or the 2018 Spring Concert. The music director and judges will determine the winner(s) and performance date(s).
Requirements: Candidates must prepare one movement, two contrasting movements, or an entire concerto scored for performance with concert band, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, or string orchestra and suitable for performance by either the YOBC Symphony Orchestra or Fanfare Winds. The length of the selection must be between 7 and 12 minutes including repeats. All music must be approved by Mr. Loughran.
Audition Date: Auditions will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. A preliminary semi-finalist round may be held if we have a large number of applicants. All applicants must be available for both rounds. Applicants will perform with an accompanist for the final round only. YOBC will provide an accompanist who will work with each candidate for up to 30 minutes prior to their final audition.
Procedure: Interested members should submit an online application with $35 non-refundable application fee by January 31, 2017. A copy of your selection with piano accompaniment must be submitted to Mr. Loughran no later than February 19, 2017. Please submit your music as soon as possible so the accompanist has time to prepare. You will receive an email confirming your audition time in mid-March. We will attempt to honor requests for audition times which are indicated on your application. No changes will be made in the schedule after confirmations are emailed. Applicants not complying with the procedure or not meeting the deadlines may be disqualified.
Contact: Questions can be directed to Mr. Loughran or Mr. Sweetsir during Sunday rehearsals.
